About SpecDirectory
A specification reference for 31,939 certified commercial and residential equipment models, built on public government data.
What this is
SpecDirectory publishes the technical specifications of certified commercial and residential equipment in a form you can actually read: dimensions, capacity, energy consumption, refrigerant data and efficiency ratings, presented consistently across every manufacturer rather than scattered across 1,055 different brand websites in 28 different formats.
It currently covers 31,939 models from 1,055 brands, across 3 industries:
- Commercial Kitchen — 4,154 models across 12 equipment types
- Home Appliances — 8,375 models across 9 equipment types
- HVAC — 19,410 models across 7 equipment types
Where the data comes from
Every specification on this site is sourced from the U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR certified product datasets. These are public records: manufacturers submit certified performance data to the EPA, the EPA publishes it, and it is released under the EPA Data License as public domain.
We do not retype, estimate, or infer specifications. Values are pulled programmatically from the source datasets and rendered as published, rounded only for display. Where a manufacturer has not reported a value, we omit the row rather than guess — which is why two models in the same category can show different numbers of specifications.
What this data does not cover
This is the most important limitation to understand, and we would rather state it plainly than have you discover it:
- Only certified models appear here.
- ENERGY STAR datasets list equipment that has been certified to the programme's requirements. A great deal of equipment on the market is not certified and therefore does not appear on this site at all. An absent model is not a discontinued or inferior model — it simply is not in the source data.
- Coverage varies by field, not just by model.
- Different equipment categories report different things. Commercial refrigerators publish full height, width and depth; commercial ovens publish no dimensions at all. That is a property of the certification programme, not an omission on our part.
- Certification data is not installation guidance.
- Always confirm dimensions, clearances and electrical requirements against the manufacturer's own installation documentation before purchasing, building or installing. See our Terms of Use.
- Reported dimensions sometimes disagree with the manufacturer's spec sheet.
- Dimensions on this site are as the manufacturer reported them to ENERGY STAR. We compared 70 True Manufacturing models against True's own published spec sheets: width and depth agreed to within an eighth of an inch on most models, but height differed by more than an inch on 15 of the 70 — including several worktop and undercounter models that appear to carry each other's height in the source file, and one where width and height are transposed outright. We report the certified figure because that is the record we hold and can cite. Where a model page links a manufacturer spec sheet, that document governs, and you should measure from it rather than from the table.
About the drawings
Where a dataset publishes dimensions, each model page carries a to-scale front elevation generated from those published numbers. These are drawings, not photographs — every one is captioned as such. We generate them because manufacturer product photography is copyrighted, and because a dimensioned drawing is more useful than a marketing image when you are deciding whether something fits.
About the documentation links
We link to manufacturer manuals and spec sheets at their original source rather than rehosting copies. That means you always get the current revision rather than whatever we happened to download, and it means the manufacturer's copyright in their own documentation is respected.
Who runs this
SpecDirectory is maintained by a small team of engineers and building-science researchers who build open specification tools for commercial and residential equipment. We got tired of digging through fifteen different manufacturer sites to compare three refrigerators, so we built the reference we wanted to use ourselves — and opened it to everyone whose job involves sizing, specifying, or purchasing certified equipment.

Independence and affiliation
SpecDirectory is an independent publication. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. EPA, the ENERGY STAR programme, or any equipment manufacturer. ENERGY STAR is a registered trademark of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; we reference it to describe the source of our data, not to imply any relationship.
This site currently carries no affiliate links. It does carry display advertising. Neither will ever affect which models we publish or what specifications we show — the data is pulled from the government source before any commercial consideration exists. See our affiliate disclosure for the full explanation.
Corrections
If a specification on this site is wrong, we want to know. Because our data comes from EPA records, a correction usually means one of two things: either we have rendered the source data incorrectly, which we will fix, or the source record itself is wrong, in which case the manufacturer needs to update their EPA submission. Either way, tell us and we will look into which it is.
