Current status

This site currently carries no affiliate links. Display advertising through Google AdSense is enabled. No link on this site earns a commission today. This page describes the policy that applies if and when that changes, so the terms are published before any money is involved rather than after.

The short version

When affiliate links are present, clicking one and buying something may earn us a commission at no additional cost to you.

This disclosure is made in accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255).

Which links are affiliate links

The two buttons on every model page — the one that checks price on a new unit, and the one that searches for replacement parts — are commercial links. They are marked rel="sponsored" in the page source, which is the machine-readable version of this disclosure, and every model page carries a plain-language notice directly above them.

Links to manufacturer documentation, to the EPA, and between pages on this site are not affiliate links and earn us nothing.

Why this does not bias the data

This is the part that matters, so here is the actual mechanism rather than a reassurance.

Our specifications are pulled programmatically from U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR datasets before any commercial consideration exists. Every certified model in a category we cover gets a page — we do not choose which models to publish, and we could not favour one over another without simply not publishing public government data. The affiliate links are generated afterwards, from the brand and model number, by the same template for every page.

Concretely: we have no ability to rank one manufacturer above another, no sponsored placements, no paid inclusion, and no editorial "best of" lists where money could quietly change the order. A model with no affiliate relationship at all is published identically to one that pays the highest commission.

Advertising

This site reserves space for display advertising. Where advertising is served, it is clearly labelled as such and is separate from editorial and specification content. Advertisers have no input into what we publish.

What we do not do

• We do not accept payment to include, exclude, or reorder models.
• We do not publish sponsored reviews or paid editorial.
• We do not alter specifications for any commercial reason.

If you ever find evidence otherwise, tell us — that would be a bug in the thing this site exists to do.
