Terms of Use

What you can rely on this data for, and what you must verify yourself.

Agreement

By using SpecDirectory you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

The specifications are a reference, not an authority

This is the most important clause here, and it is a practical warning rather than boilerplate.

Specifications on this site are reproduced from U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR certification records. We render that public data faithfully, but we do not independently test equipment, and we cannot verify that a manufacturer's submission to the EPA is correct or current. Source records can contain errors, can lag product revisions, and can describe a configuration different from the one you are buying.

Before purchasing, specifying, building for, or installing any equipment, confirm every dimension, clearance, electrical requirement and capacity against the manufacturer's own current documentation for the exact model and configuration you intend to use. A cabinet that does not fit, a circuit that is undersized, or a clearance that starves a condenser is an expensive mistake, and this site is not a substitute for the manufacturer's installation manual or for a qualified installer.

The tools are estimates

The calculators on this site — including the Space & Clearance Fit Checker — provide general guidance from the numbers you supply. Clearance figures are typical values for the equipment class, not manufacturer specifications, because condenser placement and ventilation requirements vary by model. Treat their output as a first check, and confirm against the installation manual.

No professional advice

Nothing on this site is engineering, electrical, refrigeration, legal or financial advice. Equipment installation frequently requires licensed trades and may be subject to building, electrical, plumbing, gas and food-safety codes in your jurisdiction. Consult qualified professionals.

Intellectual property

We want to be precise about this, because much of what is on this site is not ours to own:

The underlying specification data is public domain.
It comes from U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR datasets published under the EPA Data License. We claim no ownership of those facts and do not restrict your use of them. You can obtain the same data from the EPA directly, and we encourage it.
Our compilation, design, drawings and code are ours.
The organisation and presentation of this site, the generated scale drawings, the written content, and the software that produces it are the property of SpecDirectory and are protected by copyright.
Trademarks belong to their owners.
Brand names, model numbers and logos referenced on this site are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification only. ENERGY STAR is a registered trademark of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Reference does not imply affiliation or endorsement — see About.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Automate requests at a volume that degrades the service for others. If you want the data in bulk, take it from the EPA source rather than from us — it is the same data, better structured for the purpose, and free.
  • Misrepresent the source or accuracy of anything published here.
  • Use the site for any unlawful purpose.

Third-party links

This site links to manufacturer documentation and to retailers, some of them affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure). We do not control those sites, do not endorse their content, and are not responsible for your dealings with them. Any purchase is a transaction between you and that retailer.

Availability

The site is provided as-is and as-available. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it, including removing or altering data, at any time and without notice.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, this site and its content are provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SpecDirectory and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data or business, arising from your use of or reliance on this site — including any purchasing, specifying or installation decision made on the basis of information published here.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions of warranty or limitations of liability, so parts of the two sections above may not apply to you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The "last updated" date above will change when we do, and continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which SpecDirectory operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
