Electric & Gas Calculator

Nameplate ratings come in whichever unit the manufacturer felt like using. Convert between them, size a circuit from the result, and see what it costs to run.

Power & energy

Enter a rating in any one unit. Everything else follows.

therm/hr
MJ/hr
hp

Circuit & breaker sizing

Uses the kilowatt figure above. Continuous loads are sized at 125% per NEC 210.20(A) — most commercial kitchen equipment runs three hours or more and counts as continuous.

V

Gas flow

Converts the BTU/hr figure above into a volumetric flow rate. Heating value varies by supply — the defaults are typical, not your utility's.

These are estimates for planning. Actual branch-circuit and overcurrent sizing depends on conductor type and insulation rating, ambient temperature, the number of current-carrying conductors in a raceway, voltage drop over the run, and the manufacturer's own minimum circuit ampacity — which appears on the nameplate and overrides any calculation here. Gas heating values vary by supply. Have any installation designed and signed off by a licensed electrician or gas fitter, and follow the codes in force where you are.
